Voluntown Village Center Pedestrian Network Enhancements

On July 16, 2024, the Town of Voluntown was awarded a $799,200 Community Connectivity Grant for Voluntown Village Center Pedestrian Network Enhancements.

The Community Connectivity Grant Project will bring the sidewalk network in Voluntown Village Center to where (along the TRIP grant), visitors and residents of Voluntown will be able to safely access the entirety of the civic, governmental, educational, recreational, and commercial resources in the heart of Voluntown. This project connects with sidewalks planned in the TRIP grant project. This project is also part of the Gate Street Recreation Complex Master Plan, with the addition of a new multi-use walking path.

We were awarded $799,200 for the sidewalk and walking path construction. The Town is responsible for the design which is estimated to be $60,000. The engineering and design was awarded to Freeman Companies, LLC since they were awarded the engineering and design for the TRIP grant sidewalk project.

$950,511 TRIP Grant Awarded to Town of Voluntown on January 31, 2024 for the construction of sidewalks through the Village District.

The Town of Voluntown looks to extend their existing Village Center sidewalk network along Main Street and Beach Pond Road (Route 138) to connect the Town’s civic core with the primary retail destinations of the Riverside Mall and Bronson’s Pool/True Value. This new sidewalk will also include a pedestrian bridge over Denison Brook where the current bridge is not sufficiently wide to accommodate an on-road sidewalk.

The town’s portion of the project is to cover the engineering and design plans. We went out to bid, and the project was awarded to Freeman Companies, LLC on June 19, 2024 for $79,990.
