The Voluntown Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining town roads, snow removal, and the upkeep of town vehicles. The Public Works crew also assists in the maintaining of town property, including the school and recreation areas.


To report a hazard in the roadway

If a hazard is blocking traffic and/or is life threatening, dial 9-1-1 to report it. Dispatch notifies Public Works and/or the fire department and/or Eversource.
A message can always be left with the Selectmen’s Office 860-376-5880.

All roads in the town are maintained by The Department of Public Works with the exception of State Roads routes 49, 138, 165, which are maintained by CT DOT Occum Office at (860) 823-3204

Voluntown Public Works has contracted BETA to assist with our road management planning.  Joe McGuire from Beta spoke to Voluntown residents at our 5/21/24 public hearing about this process and the funding needed to reach our goals. Please be informed road work is scheduled to be performed at Rachel Lane and Congdon Road on Tuesday June 4, 2024. The nature of work is infra red basin shim to correct flow to basin grates.  The work will only reduce traffic to one lane and will be posted accordingly. Work is to be performed by Felix A. Marino Co.

Forge Hill Bridge Open As One Lane Bridge Until Further Notice

THE FORGE HILL BRIDGE IS NOW OPEN AS A ONE LANE BRIDGE. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TRAFFIC PATTERN HAS BEEN CHANGED AT THE WYLIE SCHOOL RD/FORGE HILL RD/ NORTH SHORE ROAD INTERSECTION. IT IS NO LONGER A 2 WAY STOP, BUT IS NOW A THREE WAY STOP SO DRIVERS CAN PREPARE SAFELY FOR THE ONE LANE BRIDGE. PLEASE PROCEED ACCORDINGLY.
